2012 Avenue Q

22 November - 15 December 2012

Description

AVENUE Q is not the most upmarket of New York streets and is about as far away from Park Avenue as you can get, but it is home to some lively and off the wall characters performed by an unholy comedic alliance of humans and puppets!  Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate, has just moved to neighbourhood as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life.  A tiny bank balance, the distraction of a busty blonde and a variety of weird and wonderful friends and neighbours lead Princeton on a hilarious story of self-discovery.  Life may suck on AVENUE Q but being jobless, homeless, politically incorrect, having sex (whether hetero, homo or porno ... and that’s just the puppets!) are just some of the topics featured in the terrific songs of this show.

Synopsis

Avenue Q” tells the story of a college graduate, Princeton, who comes to New York with big dreams and not much money and finds out the only place he can afford to live is Avenue Q.  Moving in he meets his neighbours who seem nice.  Little does he know they all are a bit out of the norm ... and the Superintendent of the building is Gary Coleman - Hmmmmmm … got you wondering a bit.

“Avenue Q” is an ‘autobiographical and biographical’ coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirising the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood.  Its characters lament that as children they were assured by their parents and children’s television programmes, that they were ‘special’ and ‘could do anything’; but as adults they have discovered to their surprise and dismay that in the real world their options are limited and they are no more ‘special’ than anyone else.

Due to the subject matter, “Avenue Q” is not appropriate for young children.
